The City of Paducah is adding a temporary site for residents to dispose of recyclable materials until a new transfer station is in place.
Starting Monday, the public will be able to use the new location across from the Public Works building on Burnett Street.
The facility which is an open lot will be open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon. There is no charge for the general public to drop off recyclables.
The recycling location is at 920 Burnett Street across from the Public Works facility. Customers will enter the drive-thru facility on Burnett Street and exit through a gate to Finley Street.
Customers will need to unload their recyclables and place them in the appropriate container.
There is a green container for cardboard; however, all other accepted recyclables can be placed together in the blue single-stream bins. Items that will be accepted in the single-stream bins are as follows: pasteboard (which includes cereal and other similar-type boxes), newspapers, magazines, junk mail, phone books, hardback and paperback books, office paper, tin, steel, and aluminum cans, and plastic containers. Please rinse containers before bringing them to the facility.
The City will not accept electronics or batteries, household hazardous waste, food waste, Styrofoam™, or glass.
Paducah's agreement with its previous solid waste and recycling drop point provider expired at the end of 2015.
City Manager Jeff Pederson says the new site is only temporary, as the city is currently negotiating with a new provider to establish permanent drop point facilities.
