The National Weather Service in Paducah is forecasting this weekend to be the chilliest so far this fall. With temperatures falling to the mid to upper 30s Friday and Saturday, Calloway County Ag and Natural Resources Agent Matt Chadwick says growers who want to extend their garden’s growth period, whether that's vegetables or perennial flowers, need to get ready.
“You can cover them with either a sheet or a plastic or a tarp. You need to remember though to remove that in the morning as soon as the sun comes out. Whenever that sun hits, especially any type of plastic or tarp, it will heat that up very quickly and cause more damage than the frost would have caused.” Chadwick said.

Chadwick says late season vegetable gardens growers can cover and uncover their plants allowing them to continue to flourish into the winter.
