It’s a record snow event, according to the National Weather Service in Paducah.
The 12.1 inches at the NWS office eclipses the previous March record of 9.0 inches set in 1960. This snowstorm was the third largest of all-time in our area over a two-day period.
The record is only for single day or two-day storms.
Last month’s snowstorm was the fourth largest snowstorm to hit Paducah. The top four are:
1. 14.2 inches – Dec. 22-23 of 2004
2. 12.2 inches – Jan. 16-17 of 1979
3. 12.1 inches – March 4-5 of 2015
4. 10.8 inches – Feb. 16-17 of 2015
There have been no other snowfalls of 10 inches or more in the records.
Also, this morning’s low temperature of minus six set another March record. The previous record low for this month was minus 2 on March 5th and 6th of 1960.
