The National Weather Service will be simplifying parts of their hazard advisory system starting October 2.

NWS said the change will include shorter messages followed with a “What, Where and When” and additional details with precautionary actions for winter weather advisories.

Changes consolidate a ‘Lake Effect Snow Advisory’ and ‘Freezing Rain Advisory’ into a ‘Winter Weather Advisory’ … Also, a ‘Lake Effect Snow Watch’ and ‘Blizzard Watch’ into a ‘Winter Storm Watch’ ...and a ‘Lake Effect Snow Warning’ into a ‘Winter Storm Warning.’

NWS said they will simplify some flood advisory warnings in the Spring.
