National Day of Service in Murray

By Angela Hatton

Murray, KY – Some western Kentucky residents spent their holiday volunteering today. Each year communities celebrate the Martin Luther King Junior holiday by donating their time at local charities. Murray-Calloway County United Way Resource Development Director Aaron Dail was at today's sign-up event. Dail says volunteers had the chance to work at seven local agencies, and provide disaster relief for Haiti.

"What we're doing is we're granting donations and getting donations that will directly to the American Red Cross to help those down in Haiti."

Dail says around 160 volunteers came out for the National Day of Service in Murray. Volunteers also participated in a Martin Luther King Junior commemorative walk. The day of service is a partnership between the United Way, the city of Murray, the office of American Humanics, and Murray State University.
