Murray State Names Jamie Herring Chief of Police

MSU Public Relations

Murray State University has appointed a new Chief of Police and Director of Public Safety and Emergency Management. Jamie Herring takes the position after a national search.

Herring served for more than 30 years at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, most recently as the university’s Chief of Police. Herring has a Bachelor's of Arts and a Master of Public Affairs from UNCG.

In a press release, Herring says, "In my professional career, I’ve always pushed to achieve more and to be excellent in what I do... I sense the same philosophy at Murray State. I’m excited to see what goals we can achieve as both a police department and as a University.”

He replaces Roy Dunaway, who has served as interim chief of police and director.

Herring starts July 5.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
