Murray Rotary Club Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for Performing Arts Pavilion

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

Murray Central Park is one step closer to having a new performing arts pavilion. The Murray Rotary Club held a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday for the $160,000 dollar project.

Campaign Manager Roger Reichmuth says the effort adds a pavilion shell, lighting, sound, ADA access, restrooms and landscaping to the existing park amphitheater. The concept was designed approximately 15 years ago by local Rotary Club members. At the time, only the basic version of the design was installed.

Murray Rotary Club has so far raised more than $128,000 dollars for the pavilion. An official name hasn't yet been decided for the space. Reichmuth says the club and the city may decide a name at a later time, adding that naming rights are available.

Reichmuth says down the road, he hopes to launch a new campaign for a project that adds a space for storage and dressing rooms and restrooms for performers.

Pre-made components for the shell arrive in late March. Construction begins in April. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held May 19 coinciding with a visit by Rotary International President Elect John Germ.
