MSU Buys Out Griffin's Contract

By Chris Taylor

Murray, KY – Murray State will soon be looking for a new head football coach, as the school announces it will buy out Matt Griffin's contract one year early. Athletic Director Allen Ward says he appreciates what Griffin has done for the program and players during his four-year tenure. No details on what the school will pay in the buyout, but it may be comparable to Griffin's $100,000 yearly salary. The announcement comes after last Saturday's 49-13 loss to Southeast Missouri. Ward says the program has taken a step back this season and struggles to maintain consistency and identity. Griffin offered thanks to his players, MSU, and fans in a statement released by the athletic department. The Racers will end their season this Saturday at Tennessee Tech with defensive coordinator Mark Lister as acting head coach.
