MSU Alumna Alexis Love Trains for Rio Olympics

Murray State alumna Alexis Love finished her college career as a three time All-American, OVC Athlete of the Year, NCAA Division 1 Finalist and Top 25 ranked in the US in the indoor 200 meter. Now as a post-collegiate athlete she's working on getting a bid to compete in next August's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It's all about time, as we learn in Love's conversation with Kate Lochte on Sounds Good.

Alexis Love says she's staying ready at all times, living in Orlando and training in Clermont, Florida. She's been running track for 12 years and is currently preparing for a tournament at the end of June, early July. If she does well there, she can qualify for the Olympics. When you secure a time and spot in the Olympic Trials, you're in the ballpark, she says, then you need to place top three in the finals to be in the Olympics.

Love spends much of her day in intensive training, beginning with stretches and other warm-ups, then drills including 1,000 to 2,000 meters at full speed, then upper and lower body weights and ab work. Training can be expensive, too, from paying your coach, chiropractor, masseuse, supplements, etc.

On running the track, she says "When you're in that zone you can't see or hear anything you're only worried about your lane and the time. It's just staying focused and never being content... because you can always be faster." -- On her time at Murray State, she says compared to other schools, the team was relatively small at MSU, which she liked because she got to know her teammates, to push each other and grow as a team.

24 year-old sprinter Alexis Love is a Murray State alumna who earned distinction as a Track and Field athlete. She specializes in the 100m & 200m racers. She hopes to make the US Olympic Team and compete in the August Games in Rio de Janeiro next year. She graduates from Murray State in 2013.
