Murray State is honoring a theatre alum now working on the silver screen and television.
W. Earl Brown will receive the Outstanding Alumni Award at the College of Humanities and Fine Arts' annual A Taste of the Arts Dinner and Auction next Thursday.
Brown is a western-Kentucky native and graduated MSU’s theatre program in 1989, since appearing in films Scream and There's Something About Mary and worked on shows including HBO’s Deadwood and True Detective, and most recently on AMC’s Preacher.
Theatre Chair David Balthrop says having successful alumni return and assist students with their training is "extremely valuable."
“Brown is successful today because of the education he received at Murray State. His dedication to his craft, his work ethic, all of the things that make him successful, were partially molded during his time in the theatre program at Murray,” said Balthrop. “What it means to our students to see his success and to have successful alumni come back to assist them and help with their training is extremely valuable. Brown, and others from the program who are great to our students, increases our success rate with our alumni. Brown’s success equates to higher alumni success. That’s good for Murray.”
The ticketed event features performances from students and faculty including woodwind instruments, guitars, vocals and monologues. The dinner will be followed by an art auction.
The dinner is Thursday, October 27 at 5:30 in the Murray Room of the CFSB Center. Tickets are available through the MSUOffice of Development.
