More than a Quarter of Kentucky and Tennessee Children in Poverty

www.aecf.org, Annie E. Casey Foundation

A new report finds more than a quarter of Kentucky and Tennessee children live in poverty and that economic conditions continue to worsen.

The Annual Kids Count report found that Tennessee's overall ranking of 38 is down because of the dire economic conditions that many children are living in. Kentucky ranks 35th among states in child well-being, down a point from last year's ranking. At the same time, Kentucky became one of the most successful states in the nation at increasing the overall rate of residents with health coverage. Kids Count found that only four percent of Kentucky children lacked health coverage in 2014.

The Kids Count Data Book ranks child well-being on four different factors: Economic well-being, education, health and family and community.
