More than 200 Kentucky Dams Considered High Hazards

By Associated Press

Frankfort, KY – More than 200 of Kentucky's 1,000 dams in Kentucky are considered high hazards, which threaten property, people and animals if breached. Six of those dams are in western Kentucky. The state Division of Water says Kentucky needs as much as $1.5 million of an estimated $16 million in rehabilitation funds to cover public dams, because repairs for private dams are the owner's responsibilities. The dam data were part of a recent report published by the Association of Dam Safety Officials.
