Media Release: WKMS Spring Fundraiser Close to Goal

Murray, KY- Over 1,000 dedicated WKMS listeners and underwriters from western Kentucky, northwest Tennessee, and southernmost Illinois have raised nearly $118,000 towards a $130,000 goal in community support this spring. WKMS staff will fundraise on-air April 17 & 18 to give listeners a convenient way to meet goal by calling the station toll-free at 1-800-599-4737 or clicking “Contribute Now” at wkms.org, a secure pledge page, to make a gift.

WKMS Membership Coordinator Jenni Todd says, “We welcomed 105 new members during the on-air campaign in March. On April 17 & 18 we’ll work to add 45 more first-time contributors to complete a 150 new member goal this spring.” Todd also encourages renewing listeners who haven’t yet had the time to make a contribution this spring to act now. “Listener support is so important to us. It influences WKMS qualifying for grants from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and support from Murray State.”

Once the spring goal is met WKMS will hold a Grand Prize drawing from all participants for A Big Green Egg Grill Package, over $1000 value, provided by Akridge Farm Supply/Ace Hardware in Eddyville and Fredonia.

Community support allows WKMS to provide a full schedule of national and local news, as well as a variety of music, entertainment and educational programming. It also provides the foundation to fund station operations, equipment maintenance and replacement, and student intern wages.

The station offers a secure online pledge page at wkms.org, just click “Contribute Now.” Gifts may also be mailed to WKMS; 2018 University Station; Murray, KY 42071 (made payable to WKMS/MSU Foundation).  For more information about contributing or underwriting on WKMS, call 1-800-599-4737.  Gifts may be tax-deductible.
