Kentucky residents in the Green River area are showing up in substantial numbers to sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
The open enrollment period ends December 15th.
Suzanne Craig is program manager of the Community Access Project for the Green River District Health Department, which serves seven counties, including Daviess, Henderson, and Ohio. Craig said there’s about an equal mix of residents who are signing up for the first time and those who have enrolled through the ACA before. She said many people fear they will lose their health insurance coverage.
“We are seeing more than we expected. These enrollments are taking longer because people have more questions,” said Craig.
The Green River District Health Department has seven “assisters” in different locations to help residents choose a health care plan and sign up during the open enrollment period.
Kentucky’s previous healthcare marketplace, called Kynect, has been dismantled by Gov. Matt Bevin. Now Kentucky residents enroll through Healthcare.gov.
