Madisonville Launches Primrose Beautification Project

City of Madisonville

Madisonville officials are moving forward with a citywide beautification project.

Volunteers have been planting primroses in test runs on sidewalk buffers. The first patch bloomed this week and city clerk Leslie Curneal says more are on the way.

“It’s very hardy and it’s very low maintenance," Curneal said. "Once it grows, it spreads in colonies and it chokes out those weeds. And the bloom life on these plants is so long. It’s just gonna be a spectacular show.”

The Primrose Project’s funding comes both from local coffers and organizations including the Downtown Turnaround Partnership and Madisonville Women’s Club.

Curneal says the ultimate goal is to maintain plots across the city. Before that, work is underway to establish primrose farms for easier transplants.
