A Look at the Pennyroyal Veterans Center

Pennyroyal Center

Pennyroyal Center Executive Director David Ptaszek heads a multi-service private nonprofit organization with 66 facilities throughout its 8-county service area that has served Western Kentucky since 1967.  He stopped by WKMS to talk about one his newer facilities: the Pennyroyal Veterans Center in Hopkinsville.

The Veterans Center opened its doors three years ago and has been home to some 300 vets. The facility helps to recuperate homeless former soldiers dealing with mental health and addiction issues.

Ptaszek says that situation is more common than people think; about 70 percent of veterans suffer from those medical problems.

As part of the process, the center's residents are encouraged to get back on their feet. This includes job training, assigned duties around the building, and more.

The program's funded through national veterans programs along with local donations.
