Ledbetter Bridge Restrictions

By Drew Adams

Murray, KY – An updated weight restriction on the US 60 Ledbetter bridge over the Tennessee River will change truck drivers' routes through the region. The span will now be restricted to vehicles below three tons. The limit essentially bans tractor-trailer passage over the bridge which links Livingston and McCracken counties. The update comes on the heels of a previous restriction during repairs in which the condition of the bridge was found to be worse than initially estimated. Chief District One Engineer Jim LeFevre says he understands the change will make it more difficult for truckers in the region; however the restriction was necessary for the safety of the general public. A new bridge is under construction upstream from the existing span and is scheduled for completion in 2014.
