The Kentucky Office of Homeland Security has awarded nearly $60,000 in grants to 11 law enforcement agencies to purchase body armor.
The money is coming from the sale of confiscated weapons. Homeland Security Executive Director Gene Kiser said the goal is to supply law enforcement officers the tools they need to carry out their jobs.
The largest body armor grant, $13,750, went to Laurel County. Pulaski County and Breathitt County each got $6,050. The city of Lancaster got the smallest, $1,100.
Others that got grants for body armor were Bath, Carlisle and Fleming counties, as well as the cities of Bellevue, Paducah, Park Hills, and Worthington and Murray State University.
The city of Pioneer Village got almost $2,500 to buy weapons.
