The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is providing Crittenden County with Emergency Road Aid Funds to replace a damaged culvert. The $35,000 dollar assistance goes to the county Fiscal Court replacing the ailing stream tunnel on Hurricane Church Road.

A tributary of Caney Fork Creek runs under the road near the Hurricane Church Campground, the site of an annual meeting drawing hundreds of visitors.

The metal bottom of the culvert had rusted over the course of 50 years.

Crittenden County Judge Executive Perry Newcom says he is optimistic work will begin in late June or July.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
