KY roads dangerous in incliment weather

By Rose Krzton-Presson

Murray, KY – Temperatures are now well below freezing and after a day full of snowfall. The Kentucky Transportation Department's Keith Todd says tonight brings the most dangerous traveling conditions.

"But with the temperatures falling very quickly, and particularly with the high winds, that'll provide a cooling effect. So we're particularly concerned about our bridges, overpasses, and hilltops where the wind would cool them more quickly and because of that, there's a potential for slick spots to develop very quickly as we go into the evening hours."

Todd says to drive slow, even in four-wheeled drive vehicles and always buckle up.

"The wind is going to be blowing vehicles around and if we do have more snow in this, the blowing snow could create some visibility issues. Be sure to turn on your lights, even during the daytime, because that makes your vehicle more visible to other people so that's always a good thing to do."

Todd says crews have been salting bridges and overpasses in western Kentucky counties all day and will continue to work on roadways until dark.
