KY Employees Offer Tips That Could Save State $5.4 Million

Kentucky State government employees have offered tips that could save the Commonwealth as much as $5.4 million dollars a year. Personnel Secretary Tim Longmeyer honored 64 workers yesterday or suggestions to improve productivity and government services. The Kentucky Employee Suggestion System, created in 1981 to encourage employees to practice good management, has been credited with saving the state nearly $270 million in the first five years alone. Longmeyer says that shows the importance of the program, especially in tough economic times. The employees can receive cash awards of $100 to $2,500 for money-saving suggestions. And $100 awards can be given for ideas that are adopted but have intangible savings.
