On Sounds Good, Tracy Ross speaks with Erin Lowery, the series producer of KET’s Kentucky Collectibles, coming to Paducah on June 23 and 24 for its antiques appraisal fair.
Kentucky Collectibles is heading into its sixth season and is stopping in Paducah for the first time. Lowery has been with the show since it began in 2012 and says that each year she is shocked by the items people bring for appraisal. She recalls a man with a painting for which he had paid 10 cents that ended up being valued at $1,000. Another item that stands out from her six years producing the show is a set of jewelry a Paducah woman received from her aunt at age 16 that was valued at $30,000. But money isn’t the only value of such treasures. Lowery says most people who discover their antiques could fetch a high price decide never to sell because the items hold such sentimental value.
Lowery says you don’t have to live in Kentucky to have items appraised and encourages anyone in the region to participate. She says the appraisers can handle any item from musical instruments to firearms. The fair takes place at the Paducah McCracken County Convention and Expo Center on Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Find more information and ticket prices here.
