Kentucky Unemployment Rates Drop in 119 Countries

Kentucky officials say unemployment rates fell in all but one of the state's counties between December 2015 and December 2016.

The Office of Employment and Training says the jobless rate rose in Lyon County — from 6.3 percent to 6.6 percent during that time. It says two counties in eastern Kentucky had double-digit jobless rates in December 2016 — Magoffin and Leslie. Oldham County had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.9 percent.  The unemployment rate for the state was 4.5 percent overall for December 2016, and 4.5 percent for the nation.

According to Kentucky.gov: Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working. Civilian labor force statistics include non-military workers and unemployed Kentuckians who are actively seeking work. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks. The statistics in this news release are not seasonally adjusted because of the small sample size for each county. The data should only be compared to the same month in previous years.
