Kentucky’s latest unemployment figures show widespread improvement in July. The Office of Employment and Training reports jobless rates fell in 97 counties. Rates increased or were unchanged elsewhere.

Fulton County had the Commonwealth’s second highest percentage of unemployed at almost 15 and a half, an increase of almost two percent over a year ago.  Caldwell County had western Kentucky’s lowest rate at about 7 and a quarter percent, a point lower than July 2011.  The national unemployment rate is 8.6.

Todd Hatton hails from Paducah, Kentucky, where he got into radio under the auspices of the late, great John Stewart of WKYX while a student at Paducah Community College. He also worked at WKMS in the reel-to-reel tape days of the early 1990s before running off first to San Francisco, then Orlando in search of something to do when he grew up. He received his MFA in Creative Writing at Murray State University. He vigorously resists adulthood and watches his wife, Angela Hatton, save the world one plastic bottle at a time.
