More than 40,000 Kentuckians have registered to vote this fall using the state’s online voter registration portal GoVoteKY.com.

Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes says the number surpasses her office’s goal ahead of the October 11th registration deadline.

"Online voter registration has been a game-changer for Kentuckians," said Grimes. "They're responding overwhelmingly to this new tool because it's easier than ever to register to vote and update your registration online. And, importantly, it's saving time and money for government."

Grimes says benefits of the online portal include cost savings and improvements in accuracy of voter rolls.  More than 3,500 of the approximately 12,700 new voters are 18-year-olds eligible to cast their first vote November 8th.

Of those new voters, represented are more than 6,800 Democrats, 4,000 Republicans and about 1,800 Independents and other party members.
