The head of the Kentucky Public Protection Cabinet has named Paul Joseph Vido as director of the state Division of Enforcement at the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

Vido was Special Agent in Charge at the Louisville Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives from 2006 until his retirement in 2012.  He administered all ATF investigations and regulatory operations in Kentucky, West Virginia and southern Indiana.

Vido replaces Ed Robinson who retired earlier this year. His appointment is effective immediately.

“I want to thank the secretary for the confidence he’s showing in me by offering me this opportunity to serve,” added Vido. “The director of enforcement plays a key role in keeping alcohol and tobacco products out of the hands of our children and teenagers. I want to make sure ABC enforcement focuses all its efforts on the priorities designated to the agency by statute.”

Vido's appointment follows the removal of ABC Commissioner Steven Edwardslast week after Gov. Bevin said he "lost confidence" in his ability to lead. Bevin did not specify reasons for the removal.  Edwards' attorney has said that the commissioner was fired August 5th and received no explanation as to why.

Prior to his Louisville assignment, Vido was Special Agent in Charge for Northern California, including San Francisco and the state of Nevada.  His local, state and federal service also includes working in Crown Point, IN, Springfield, IL and Washington, DC.
