The latest round of efforts to expand gambling to casinos in Kentucky has begun.

A House committee heard testimony on the issue Wednesday. During the meeting, Democratic gambling bill sponsor, state Rep. Larry Clark, D-Louisville, told lawmakers that he will likely collaborate with Sen. Dan Seum, R-Louisville, who has filed similar legislation in the Senate.

State Rep. Dennis Keane, the committee chair, says the spirit of cooperation between the two parties will likely help when gaming comes up for a vote.

“This isn’t gonna be just one side against the other. We’re gonna try and make something that works on both sides. If you can’t pass on both sides, then it’s not gonna work," says Keene, a Wilder Democrat.

The Legislative Research Commission estimates that Clark’s bill would bring in about $286 million in new tax revenue.

The committee will hear arguments against the proposal next week
