Kentucky Budget Director to Discuss State's Finances

By Associated Press

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky State Budget Director Mary Lassiter is scheduled to testify Tuesday before the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee. The meeting is at 10 a.m. EST in the Capitol Annex. Lassiter, who has had a hand in drafting state budgets for decades, was tapped early in Gov. Steve Beshear's first term to serve as his budget director. She is largely responsible for the austere budget proposal Beshear delivered to the state legislature last week, and she is expected to go over that proposal with lawmakers. That proposal calls for cuts of 8.4 percent to most state agencies and programs, though some like education, economic development and public protection wouldn't be hit as hard.
