Kentucky AG Urges TVA to Hold Public Meetings Over Shawnee Fossil Plant Emissions

TVA

Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway has asked the Tennessee Valley Authority to schedule public meetings regarding the possible closure of two units at Paducah’s Shawnee Fossil Plant.

The facility provides electricity throughout the southwestern part of the state.

The TVA announced last month that it would determine the fate of units 1 and 4 at the plant. The facility currently hosts nine operating units.

2011's Clean Air Actrequires the provider to reduce all air pollution emission by 2017.

Conway’s asking the TVA to hold meetings around Paducah and within driving distance of the provider’s customers to gather public input.

He also requests that the TVA study potential economic effects if the retirement option were chosen.

Retrofitting the units to lessen environmental impact is also under consideration.
