A judge has cleared charges against the former head of a Fort Campbell sexual assault response program that stem from a domestic dispute.
Fort Campbell leaders fired Lt. Col. Darin Haas in May after his arrest for allegedly violating a protection order and stalking his ex-wife. Haas said he is relieved that the charges have been dropped, but that he cannot get his reputation back.
“As far as employment it’s bleak,” he said. “But I am happy that this is finally over and that I can at least put that chapter behind me and move on.”
Haas is in the process of retiring from the military.
He said the text messages his ex-wife used as evidence to get the protection order from a county magistrate were from a year before. At that time they were negotiating a divorce.
Publicity surrounding Haas’s case was initially exacerbated by the arrest of a staff sergeant from the sexual-assault response office at Fort Hood, Texas.
