An independent political group that backed David Williams' failed bid to become Kentucky governor has paid a $4,500 fine.  The fine imposed against the group Restoring America is part of an agreement to settle allegations it improperly shielded the identity of its major contributor leading up to the 2011 election. That contributor was Williams' father-in-law at the time, Terry Stephens. Restoring America also was accused of failing to disclose campaign expenditures about a month before the election.  Kentucky Democratic Party Chairman Dan Logsdon filed the complaint with the Registry of Election Finance. Restoring America ran TV ads attacking Democratic Governor Steve Beshear, who defeated Williams. Logsdon says such "shady groups" have no place in Kentucky politics. An attorney for Restoring America says the group believes it complied with election law.
