Incumbent Billy McDaniel Wins Metropolis Mayoral Race

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

Metropolis, Illinois voters re-elected mayor Billy McDaniel in a local election Tuesday night. McDaniel said on Facebook he is "honored to serve the people of Metropolis for another four years."

He faced challengers Julian 'Butch' Adams, Richard Corzine Jr. and David McManus.

In a forum last month, McDaniel said most of the city's challenges stem from state budget issues. He suggested the city find funding via grants and low interest loans. He also said further developing a grant matching program could attract and retain local business.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
