The McCracken County Public Library Board of Trustees has named Susan Baier the new library Director.

A Waltonville, Illinois native, Baier is currently a Library Administrator over 19 libraries in the Los Angeles Public Library system.

In a news release, Board president Rachel Norton praised Baier’s ideas for future growth. “We believe that Susan will support our incredible staff in continuing all of the things we love about the library today, while creating new programs and partnerships that will ensure the library’s relevance in a rapidly changing world,” Norton said.

She said in a visit to Paducah earlier this month, she anticipated the library partnering with local businesses and making library resources available to support entrepreneurs.

Baier has a master’s degree in library science from the University of Kentucky and is a graduate of the American Library Association’s Certified Public Library Administrator program.

Baier was chosen from a nationwide search of 37 applicants.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
