Inaugural Breathitt Lecture Features Civil Rights Activist

Hopkinsville Community College

Civil Rights activist Joan Trumpauer Mulholland has been chosen for the Inaugural Breathitt Lecture at Hopkinsville Community College.

Mullholland participated in the 1961 Mississippi Freedom Ride, served jail-time for her activism, and is the subject of the documentary An Ordinary Hero: The True Story of Joan Trumpauer Mulholland. The inaugural lecture highlights the Civil Rights legacy of Governor Ned Breathitt, who signed the Kentucky Civil Rights Act into law in 1966.

Kentucky Educational Television’s Renee Shaw hosts the lecture at the HCC Auditorium Building at 6:30 p.m. Thursday April 28.

A proud native of Murray, Kentucky, Allison grew up roaming the forests of western Kentucky and visiting national parks across the country. She graduated in 2014 from Murray State University where she studied Environmental Sustainability, Television Production, and Spanish. She loves meeting new people, questioning everything, and dancing through the sun and the rain. She hopes to make a positive impact in this world several endeavors at a time.
