Humana Reduction

By Caleb Campbell

Louisville, KY – Humana, Incorporated says it will reduce its national workforce by 14-hundred over the rest of the year, including about 750 job cuts in Louisville, where it is headquartered. Spokesperson Jim Turner says the insurance company is restructuring in response to a decline in enrollment, which fell 11-percent last year. He says most of the local layoffs will be staggered throughout the year, but some will take place soon.

"These associates will have a 60 day transition period at Humana, meaning they will continue to work at Humana until mid April. Our human resources department will work closely with these associates to provide access to resources and information about internal opportunities and outplacement assistance."

Turner says its hoped many of the reductions can be accomplished through attrition. Humana has about 10-thousand employees in Louisville.
