Hopkinsville's Whitney Westerfield May Run for Attorney General

Facebook - Whitney H. Westerfield

Kentucky State Senator Whitney Westerfield,a Republican from Hopkinsville, might put his name in the currently unopposed race for Kentucky Attorney General. Westerfield said he doesn’t want current candidate Democrat Andy Beshear to be Kentucky’s only option.

“I refuse to let someone who I don’t believe is qualified for the office, who I don’t believe has the practice experience or policy experience for the office, to have that and a walk," Westerfield said. "And I frankly think there are plenty of people out there who aren’t prepared to have another Beshear at state level government in Frankfort.”

If he enters the race, Westerfield says he would work to keep the federal government from expanding its authority.

“I think Kentucky deserves an advocate from the attorney general’s office that’s gonna fight back more aggressively against President Obama or any president that comes after this president. But the President and Congress in different times and different ways have set many dangerous precedents and the next president may not be inclined to give that power up, and that concerns me,” Westerfield said.

Westerfield claims he is better qualified because of his prosecuting experience and term in the legislature. He says he and his wife will decide shortly whether to enter the race. The deadline to file for primaries is January 27.
