Hickman County Sheriff Mark Green is repaying the county Fiscal Court more than $5,000 after an audit found mishandled spending from Green’s office.
The Fiscal Court determined that the sheriff owes $3,900 for mileage on his personal vehicle and $1,375 for personal expenditures.
Magistrate KoryNaranjo said some issues are still not resolved as Green does not yet have receipts for money spent on cell phone usage and drug buys.
“He had a drug fund account that he had a debit card tied to it, and about 39 times that he has used this debit card and there’s not any log of information,” Naranjo said. “So basically what we question is when he’s had withdrawals of $800 from these ATM machines that did it actually go for a drug buy? There’s not any proof to verify that. So you have to question whether he’s used that for personal use.”
Naranjo says the account has had $28,000 in it since Green has been in office. The account now has $300 and Green says there is $2,800 in a safety deposit box. But the audit only found unaccounted spending in 2013 which totaled $2,675.
County Judge Executive Kenny Wilson said the county had known about this issues for several months but were waiting on the audit released last week before taking action.
“Our job as court members and judge was to protect the people’s money, and we just went over you know to checking all these audit findings out,” Wilson said.
Green has not responded to calls today.
