Henry Bypass Project Could Move Faster

By Carrie Pond

Paris, TN – A Henry County, TN bypass project could be expedited if it makes a list of road projects to receive funding from a federal stimulus package proposed by President-elect Barack Obama. Henry County Mayor Brent Greer says officials submitted a funding request for what he calls the most crucial leg of the 218 Bypass project. The project would extend Highway 69 near the airport to Highway 641, just north of Paris. Greer says this would aid the flow of southbound traffic, allowing commuters to bypass the city during their travels. Project work will total roughly 10 million dollars. If approved, Greer says construction could begin as early as 2010, following the completion of the project's current phase. That work, which will extend Highway 54 to the airport, is slated to begin this spring.
