Heavy Rain Tonight, Fireworks Update

The National Weather Service says the region is under a flash flood watch until 7 this evening. Periods of strong to severe thunderstorms will bring heavy rain tonight as a cold front moves east. Flash flooding is also possible.

Gusting winds up to 21 miles per hour may blow branches and tree limbs already weakened by the recent weather.

Land Between the Lakes is urging caution on their roads - some are washed out, others have downed trees.

The rest of the week will be hot and humid as heat indices move into the 100s. There's also a small chance of storms between sunshine. 

Fireworks Displays (as of 4:35)

Calvert City mayor says the Ameribration fireworks are "definitely" on for 9.

Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park - celebration pushed back to September 4th

Mayfield fireworks still on at 9. Downtown events canceled. Events at Mayfield High School start at 6.

Murray fireworks moved to next Sunday (July 10) at 9:30. Family Night in the Park is canceled tonight. 

Lake Barkley State Resort Park fireworks still on at 9 - weather permitting

Paducah's fireworks pushed back to 10. Events on  the Wilson Stage start at 5:15. Kid zone, community arts project and other activities on Broadway moved back to August 6

Paris Landing fireworks still on at 9

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
Rob Canning is a native of Murray, KY, a 2015 TV Production grad of Murray State. At MSU, he served as team captain of the Murray State Rowing Club. Rob's goal is to become a screenwriter, film director or producer and looks to the likes of Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie for inspiration. He appreciates good music, mainly favoring British rock n' roll, and approves of anything with Jack White's name on it. When not studying, rowing or writing, Rob enjoys spending his free time with a book or guitar.
