Kentucky’s Secretary of State says Americans can expect a big contrast between this week’s Democratic National Convention and last week’s Republican gathering in Cleveland. Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes is speaking at her party’s convention in Philadelphia.
She says Democrats will offer a more positive view of the U.S. than the one described by G-O-P presidential candidate Donald Trump. “You’re going to see people from all across this nation, and importantly, our nominee, that believe America is already great. And we need a President that recognizes that, and will build upon that—unity people, not dividing them with hateful rhetoric.”
Grimes says it’s an honor to speak on behalf of the first woman to be nominated for president by a major party. “This opportunity is once-in-a-lifetime, representing the Commonwealth and the South. This is the national state, and I’m proud to support a woman that I have known for over two decades.”
Grimes called Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton a role model and friend for more than 24 years.
Grimes is one of the few female Democrats elected to statewide office in a southern state.
A recent NBC/Wall Street Journal poll showed Clinton with a 15-point lead over Trump among women voters.
The date and time of Grimes’s speech hasn’t been released yet.
