The U.S. Department of Education has named Graves County Central Elementary as a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School, for the school’s overall academic excellence.
Elementary School Principal Tiffany Williams said the school earned the award by focusing on each child and targeting student needs.
“We look at our RTI data and just try to make sure we’re meeting child’s academic needs exactly where they're at and target different programs that will help fill those gaps,” Williams said.
Williams said the Kentucky Department of Education recognized Graves County Central for high scores on the state assessment and nominated the school for a National Blue Ribbon award. She said the school had to show four years of exceptional data to be recognized.
The school is one of nine in Kentucky to be recognized this year.
