Republican U.S. Representative James Comer of the first district in west Kentucky has been re-elected to office.
Comer defeated Democratic Murray professor Paul Walker in Tuesday’s midterm election.
Comer said his first priority will be passing the 2018 Farm Bill this December in the “lame duck session.”
He said he hopes to address criminal justice and infrastructure reform in 2019-- as well as reducing the federal deficit. “I hope we can somehow get spending under control. Our deficit continues to increase, that’s unacceptable to me and I hope to do everything I can to reduce wasteful government spending,” he said.
Walker said he’s disappointed that Kentuckians chose issues that he doesn’t believe matter to them, but congratulated Comer on a “clean race.”
“It was never negative, we both had a message that we shared with voters. And I’m disappointed, but I thank all the people that supported me that worked for me,” Walker said.
