Fugitive's Arrest Costs Taxpayers $50k

By Chris Taylor

Paducah, KY – McCracken County officials expect the arrest of a fugitive on the run for over 8 years will end up being quite expensive for taxpayers. 67-year-old Robbie R. Lee suffered chest pains during his arrest in Cairo, Illinois last Friday. He was taken to Western Baptist Hospital where tests revealed heart blockage requiring surgery to open three arteries. Because Lee was under arrest at the time, the county is responsible to pay the bill. The Paducah Sun reports estimates on the cost of his healthcare bills to reach $50,000. Lee became a fugitive in 2001 after he failed to appear in court for sentencing on a cocaine trafficking charge.
