Fort Knox Soldiers Scheduled to Return from Afghanistan

Phillip M. Bailey

About 100 Fort Knox soldiers are scheduled to return home Tuesday following a nine-month deployment in Afghanistan.

The soldiers are with the 42nd Clearance Company, and will be welcomed home during a ceremony at the Sadowski Center. While in Afghanistan, the soldiers conducted reconnaissance operations and minefield clearance alongside Afghan national forces.

Tomorrow’s ceremony will include the uncasing of the unit’s colors, which is a military tradition that symbolizes the end of the unit’s overseas mission, and the resumption of its duties stateside. The 42nd
Clearance Company moved to Fort Knox from Bamberg, Germany in October 2013.
