Fort Campbell's 101st Airborne Division to Deploy

U.S. Army Fort Campbell Facebook

Fort Campbell’s 101st Airborne Division is replacing the 82nd Airborne Division in Iraq.

Rear Detachment Public Affairs Officer Kevin Doheny  says about 500 troops will be deploying in multiple groups at different times.

“It’s just a regular, it’s just a scheduled deployment. There’s no specific reason why the 101st was chosen, we were next,” Doheny said.

They will mark this deployment with a color casing ceremony on Thursday. It’s a tradition where the flag is rolled up and a cover is put on it signifying deployment. Doheny says there’s a group of troops that stay behind and his is one of them. The 82nd Airborne Division is based in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
