Fort Campbell Baby Boom

By AP

Fort Campbell, KY – Fort Campbell's Blanchfield Army Community Hospital is experiencing a baby boom, and doctors say the increase is likely to last for a while. Chief of Women's Health Lt. Col. Maryann Masone, tells the Leaf-Chronicle planning for the boom began
in late 2008, when thousands of young soldiers were returning from Iraq and Afghanistan after at least a year in combat. But what Masone didn't expect was how long the boom would last. Between a "young, reproductive population" and staggered
deployments that have soldiers leaving and returning constantly, the "boom" is becoming the norm. There are so many new babies that BACH has employed nine midwives to help. Even so, it has had to send some patients to civilian hospitals outside of Fort Campbell.
