Former Governor Beshear Weighs in on Primary

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

Former Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear says he’s confident that Democrats across the country will rally around their party’s presidential nominee in the fall.

Beshear has endorsed Hillary Clinton ahead of Tuesday's Kentucky primary. But he says he also respects the passion felt by many supporters of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

Beshear says he thinks Democrats will come together in November to oppose the presumptive presidential nominee, Donald Trump. "I think younger people who are excited about Bernie Sanders, I think in the end when they look at the fall, I think they'll be convinced--because there's such a stark contrast here - about who ought to be President of the United States," Beshear says.

Sanders has acknowledged that he faces an uphill climb to win his party’s presidential nomination. Clinton enters Tuesday's primaries in Kentucky and Oregon with 283 more pledged delegates than Sanders. She has nearly 500 more super delegates.
