A special election will be held in Fancy Farm after a vineyard there petitioned to legalize its wine sales.

Tom Curtsinger, owner of Fancy Farm Vineyard and Winery L.L.C., acquired over 200 signatures from registered voters since June.

The limited local option election will only determine whether or not Curtsinger can sell his wine at the vineyard. It won't determine whether the county will continue to be dry.

Graves County Clerk Barry Kennemore sees the vineyard as an opportunity to bolster the local economy.

"It looks to me like it'd add another tourist attraction to Graves County," he said. "I have people that I've talked to that like to go to wineries and tour the places, and they plan trips around stuff like that."

The election will be held September 15 and is open to all Fancy Farm registered voters age 21 and older.
