Fancy Farm Picnic organizers are tweaking how they form the political speaking order.

Federal lawmakers and the Governor along with candidates for those offices will remain at the top of the roster. But state constitutional officeholders and candidates, who normally appear in ballot order, will be scheduled by random draw.

Fancy Farm Chairman Mark Wilson says the new method was chosen to be “fair and consistent” to down ticket officers and candidates.

“Now we’ve had some comments from some of the office holders and even some of the guests, that, well, it seems like the lower 2 or 3 of the constitutional officers are maybe slighted because they’re always at the very end of the program. Some of the crowd starts to leave,” Wilson said.

This year, officeholders and candidates will speak in the order of Agriculture Commissioner, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Auditor, and Treasurer. The annual Fancy Farm Picnic is August 1st .
