Excessive Heat Warning in Western Kentucky Through Sunday

National Weather Service Paducah, weather.gov

A prolonged heat wave is in the forecast for the region today and through Sunday night. Most of the WKMS listening area west of Land Between the Lakes is under an excessive heat warning. The rest of our region is under a heat advisory.

The National Weather Service in Paducah says while isolated storms are possible, they will mainly build heat and humidity. The heat index is expected to reach dangerous levels between 100 to 110 degrees.

Please stay hydrated and stay out of prolonged exposure to the sun, as the high temperatures and humidity can cause illnesses like heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Don't leave your pets unattended outside and check on relatives.

Mostly sunny today with a 20 percent chance of showers, highs near 94. Heat index reaching 105. Mostly clear tonight, lows around 76. More sunshine and a chance of showers tomorrow, highs in the mid 90s.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
